Indoor Skatepark East Kilbride  Reply with quote

Was speaking to a guy last night who said he had heard a rumour about an indoor skatepark being built in East Kilbride and that the guys behind Aberdeen were involved. Anyway googled it and came up with teh following from Property Week.

Anyone else heard anything on this?

Playtime begins for Graymack
22.01.10

New indoor urban sport and soft play company, Graymack, has opened its first centre at Kilmartin’s £20m Playsport development in East Kilbride

Graymack is run by former Miller Developments development manager Keith Mackie and Dougie Graham, who set up Transgression Park, an indoor skateboarding, BMX and rollerblade park in Ocean Terminal shopping centre, Edinburgh.

The 36,000 sq ft Playsport centre comprises an indoor skate park that is three times the size of Transgression Park and a 14,000 sq ft soft play facility. Graymack has taken a 20-year lease at Playsport, which also hosts a nine-hole golf course, a 54-bay driving range, a discount golf shop and five-a-side football pitches.

The centre is now in the control of PricewaterhouseCoopers after Lloyds Banking Group pulled the plug on Kilmartin earlier this month and called in the administrator.

Further tenants for a proposed gym and indoor tennis facility at Playsport are being sought through agent Culverwell.

Found this from teh local rag this week as well

A fourth operator for the site. Graymack, was announced this week. The firm will bring their new leisure concept, Kidzone, to East Kilbride in May, creating 12 jobs and providing work for local contractors.
Aimed at all ages, this will bring two standalone attractions under one roof – EKPark, a 20,000 sq ft indoor skatepark for skateboarding, BMX, roller blading and scooters, and a 16,000 sq ft adventure play area Happy Days.
Graymack’s Keith Mackie said: “This development is unprecedented in the UK. We were interested in opening a skatepark but the strength of Playsport’s offering locally and to the greater Glasgow area encouraged us to take on the whole unit and create Happy Days as well.”
The complex, which has scope for 15 operators, has so far created 35 jobs through current occupants Playsport Golf, American Golf and Yum2go.
Colin also says his company is close to clinching a deal with the five-a-side football outfit Fives, who have been interested in the complex since its inception. Colin added: “I have no doubt that Kidzone will be phenomenal. I think this proves that the site is moving forward.”

Sounds interesting... I know some of the skaters from Radworxs and they are petitioning for a park in South Lanarkshire/glasgow as well.

Fingers crossed the recession and lack of money in councils doesn't stop this happening.

Where is the proposed site in EK?

It's going to be based in the new Playsport facility along the road from Kingsgate Retail park in EK. Seems to be more of a private venture and I took the article details from this weeks local paper in EK.

I understand that Radworx no longer have the use of the indoor facility in Blantyre and were looking at possibly Rutherglen for a new indoor park. No idea how this will affect things. Would make sense to team up.

The EKPark website seems to have disappeared. Anyone heard anything further about this. When their site was up they were intending to open in June.
