Skateboard Scotland took a minibus (half) full of Scottish heads to the 5th VANS UKSA NATIONAL SKATEBOARDING CHAMPIONSHIPS held at the XC in Hemel Hempstead. As usual the standard was ridiculously high with established names battling it out alongside young up and comers such as Charlie Birch, Salar Kooshki and Jordan Sharkey. Despite the amount of money up for grabs the atmosphere was all about fun, the MC double act of Ben and Bob dished out the comedy abuse and the crowd heckled their friends, the UK skateboardings idea of encouragement!
Winner of the Tech Deck Young Guns Series Over 16’s John Howlett ended up in a very respectable 18th overall, with under 16’s winner Jordan Sharkey placing 25th (just weeks after knee surgery).
The girls jam was as popular as ever, with all the boys dragging themselves out of their hotel pits to spur them on. Lucy Adams cruised to victory with Lois Pendlebury in a close second.
Last years winner Josh Young had to pull out of the final due to knee problems allowing Korahn in who proceeded to rip his way up to 5th place. Anyone who was there all weekend will have seen Kris Viles victory coming a mile off, from the second he set foot on the course he was on one. Keith ‘Keet’ Walsh edged into 2nd Place above Chroliver in 3rd who pulled some ridiculous stuff out of his bottomless trick bag.
Another relatively new face on the scene Manny Lopez made a big impression on everyone by basically turning the best trick comp into a one man demo! Jake Collins owned the pool jam although a fleeting Andy Scott appearance was a treat for all present, get well soon Jake. Watch the edits below for proof of everything I’ve said!
